    Better Business Bureau (BBB) Information System
    This free database provides reliability reports for North American companies.
    Bloomberg Professional**
    Bloomberg Professional, an interactive information network that allows users to find virtually any financial information that they desire; it provides extremely in-depth financial data for all types of securities. For instance, students can delve into products like mortgage backed securities and find information regarding their composition. Furthermore, it gives students the ability to perform in-depth analysis such as correlation analysis, theoretical pricing models, and potential arbitrage pricing discrepancies on various financial products. Bloomberg easily facilitates the monitoring of different global financial market data and news and provides a vast array of current and historical financial statement data. Detailed information on risk analysis and financial solvency can also be found for most securities.   Bloomberg is installed on a laptop computer which students and faculty can borrow: one hour for students, and an extended three hours for faculty in order to facilitate classroom instruction.

    This brief Bloomberg user guide is designed to help novice or intermediate Bloomberg users.

    Bloomberg is only available to Villanova students, faculty, and non-administrative staff; to schedule a Bloomberg session stop by Bartley Hall #2008 or telephone: 610.519.8129. Updated weekly and providing coverage back to 1995, Business & Management Practices offers highly-focused coverage of more than 300 core management journals and trade publications. Also included are specific management-related articles from over 300 additional respected business sources.
    Business Insight **
    This database contains full text reports on a variety of industries. Coverage includes both The United States and international markets with special emphasis on European business. The reports are available in both html and pdf formats. Requires Internet Explorer Version 5.5 or higher. Call the library if any problems are experienced with this resource.     Business Regional News (Ebscohost)**
    This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.
    Business Source Premier (Ebscohost)**
    Business Source Premier, designed specifically for business schools and libraries, provides more than 3,600 full text scholarly publications, including more than 1,050 peer-reviewed journals with titles such as the Harvard Business Review and the OECD Economic Surveys. More than 200 of the journals have PDF full text back to 1965 or the first issue published. In addition to the fulltext, this database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 4,400 journals. This database offers information in nearly every area of business including management, economics, finance, accounting, international business.  Another segment of this database provides domestic and international Company reports (including detailed SWOT reports), a business citation search, and an image database.

    E-Journals List **
    This is a link to an A-Z list of journals that are subscribed to by Villanova. Not all dates or issues are available in fulltext.     Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval is the database of legal filings from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC).
    Electronic Collections Online**
    Indexes a growing collection of journals in a variety of subject areas. Provides some fulltext coverage of business journals.
    Emerald Journal Database**
    Fulltext journal articles on Management and Economics. This database can also be searched. Villanova only subscribes to some of the journals offered fulltext in Emerald.
    Ethnic Newswatch**
    A full-text collection of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press. Contains articles, editorials, columns, reviews, etc. Searchable in English or Spanish.
    Euromonitor GMID**
    Global Market Information Database (Euromonitor) This resource is a database of demographic, economic, lifestyle, and consumer market information for over 350 markets and 207 countries. Statistics cover consumer lifestyles, retailing, and consumer market sizes and forecasts. The data includes 6-year historic market size data for more than 330 consumer products in 52 countries, plus 5-year forecasts. Lifestyle indicators for 71 countries, lifestyle reports for 65 countries, and country profiles for 250 countries are also included.

    ICPSR **
    Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research holdings include several time series and other types of aggregate data, its holdings consist mainly of raw data derived from surveys, censuses, and administrative records.     IRIS Industrial Research and Development Information System

    Lexis-Nexis gives searchers world wide web access to the latest business, news, and legal information. Top news stories, company and industry reports, and medical abstracts are at the searchers fingertips. Lexis-Nexis also contains an easy to use patent search tool that provides an alternative to the USPTO search engine.     LNPS Online Literature of the nonprofit sector
    LNPS Online is a searchable database of the literature of philanthropy. It incorporates the unique contents of the Foundation Center's five libraries and contains more than 22,615 full bibliographic citations, of which more than 15,140 have descriptive abstracts. It is updated daily.

    Market Insight (Standard & Poor's) **
    S&P's Market Insight provides fulltext access to the S&P Industry Surveys, the Executive Compensation database, the Global Reports Library, which contains full-color, online international company source documents including annual reports, annual report summaries, financials, interims and IPO prospectuses for 13,000 companies around the world, and the GICS Sub-Industry Financial Highlights report which provides recent industry-level valuation, profitability, performance and financial risk data. There are also company reports searchable by name or ticker symbol.
    Marketline (formerly Datamonitor) **
    Marketline (Datamonitor) contains 10,000+ company profiles for both public and private US and international companies.     Provides marketing reports for many industries and demographic reports on a variety of age groups. Documents are formatted as Adobe Acrobat or .ppt files.
    Marquis Who's Who**
    Who's Who is a searchable database featuring comprehensive profiles on over 1 million of the most accomplished individuals in all fields of endeavor including government, business, science and technology, the arts, entertainment, and sports. The database accesses current biographies that appeared in any one of the many earlier Marquis print titles searching by name, gender, occupation, geography, hobbies and interests, religion and much more.
    Medical & Healthcare Marketplace Guide**

    Mergent Online **
    Provides research to 15 years of detailed financial statements for American and international companies. Searchable by ticker, country, index, industry code, or a combination of the above, Mergent also allows users to create customized data sheets using Excel. This is an excellent way to company financial variables from business to business. There are also very brief country reports available from Mergent as well. A Mergent User Guide is available now.

    Contains both mutual fund and stock reports featuring insight from top market analysts.
    My Research (Metalib Advanced Business Search Tool) **
    Note: Metalib uses a seamless form of Proxy Access and does not require configuration to the Villanova Proxy Server.

    Metalib allows users to search for articles from more than one database at a time. This technology is currently being improved upon and the version included here is not absolutely perfect. My Research will provide a good initial starting point for research but it is currently recommended that more indepth research be conducted by directly using applicable databases. A new version of Metalib will be available later this year (2005).

    PAISArchive ** [1915-1976]
    Retrospective database chronicling global public policy and social issues. Provides selective subject and bibliographical access to periodicals, books, hearings, reports, gray literature, government publications, and other English-language materials published around the world. Contains more than 700,000 records, originally published in the PAIS Bulletin, 1915-1976.
    Philadelphia Inquirer **
    Contains the complete text of articles from the Philadelphia Inquirer beginning with 1987. It doesn't include advertising, calendar listings, horoscopes, sports statistics, stock tables, weather, weddings, engagements, and puzzles. Call the library or visit the reference desk if you are looking for articles from before 1987 or for such information as is omitted from this database. Many newspapers are available on microfilm from their inception forward.
    Polling the Nations **
    The database includes 12,000 surveys and 250,000 questions on more than 3,500 topics. Scope is international, from the United States, to more than 60 other countries. While the variety of data is incredible one should take note also of the fact that the surveys are each cited and dated.
    PsycARTICLES**
    PsycARTICLES is the premier database from the American Psychological Association and includes access to nearly 50 top full-text psychology publications covering the disciplines of human physiology, personality psychology, social psychology, educational psychology, and more.

    ScienceDirect (Elsevier) **
    ScienceDirect is a journal aggregator that features the full text or abstracts of many journals relevant in the Business world. The holdings in ScienceDirect do not always show up in E-Journal Finder or when using the Find it key from other databases, so be sure to check here if are not able to locate a title elsewhere.
    Scopus**
    Indexes 14,000 peer-reviewed journals in the sciences from 1966 to present. Subject coverage includes the chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering, health sciences, biological, agricultural and environmental sciences and the social sciences. Cited reference searching for the past five years is available as well as full text linking.

    Scopus will also make you aware of additional resources that may be relevant to your research.

    SMEAL Search
    This is a free specialized search engine that searches for and indexes academic business documents that are in either PDF or PostScript (PS) formats.
    Social Sciences Citation Index ** [1993- ] (Web of Science)
    Provides access to current bibliographic information and cited references from the journal literature in the social sciences. Search by article title word, journal title, author, cited author or reference, or address word (e.g. author's institution).
    Social Expenditure Database (OECD)**
    OECD Social Expenditure Database (SOCX) has been developed in order to serve a growing need for indicators of social policy. It includes reliable, up-to-date and internationally comparable statistics on public and private social expenditure at programme level. SOCX provides a unique tool for monitoring trends in aggregate social expenditure and analysing changes in its composition.  Data in SOCX ranges in time from 1980 to 1999.

    Sports Business Research Network**
    Sports Business Research Network provides sports marketing information including market size, demographics, sports participation, licensing, financial, and retail trends. International marketing and professional sports trends are also featured. It includes BuyTRACK which tracks the sales of sporting goods purchases on the Internet. There is a degree of international coverage as well.
    SRDS Media Solutions**
    The majority of SRDS titles are now available online. The one exception is the lifestyle market analyst title which is still only available in print at the Falvey Memorial Library's Information Desk.
    Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Search
    An official source, OSHA.gov, contains information on the United States Commerce Department Industry Classification.
    STAT-USA **
    STAT-USA/Internet, a service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is a single point of access to authoritative business, trade, and economic information from across the Federal Government. Contains the State of the Nation database and the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB).
    State of the Nation (STAT-USA) **
    Contains information on United States Economic releases including GDP, Housing Starts, and Productivity.

    The Times Archives: 1785-1985
    The Times is the "world's newspaper of record" and covers all major international historical events from the French Revolution to the Falkland War. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching. It is a digital reproduction, cover to cover, of the paper in PDF files.

    The World Database of Happiness is a continuous register of scientific research on subjective appreciation of life.     WRDS is available in the Applied Finance Lab during regular lab hours. Graduate students may request their own user name and password by clicking the WRDS link above. Undergraduates, or those needing immediate (faster) assistance should contact Dan Overfield at (610) 519-8129 for help.

    Using IE (Internet Explorer) Click here if you have trouble logging into WRDS. Save that start page as a favorite and then right click on the WRDS research and data services and "Send To" the desktop. Then, right click on the desktop icon and check the properties. The URL link there should be http://www.wrds.wharton.upenn.edu/connect, so change it if that is not the URL. Click apply and try to access WRDS again.
