The online home of the Bank of Japan. National banks are often an excellent source for country data. Most countries have an English version of their national bank website. Be sure to shop for official government web URL's when exploring other countries. An example is the .gov domain used in the U.S.A.

Online source of full text working papers published by the Berkely Law and Economics Program.
· A Brief History of Deposit Insurance (from the FDIC in PDF format)
This is a 76 page .pdf document prepared by the FDIC for the 1998 International Conference on Deposit Insurance which was held in Washington D.C. Conference proceedings can be very useful in a variety of disciplines. Many times such documents are held at the library or are available electronically from a number of databases and websites. The University of Pennsylvania's Van Pelt Library has a comprehensive listing of many potentially useful sources.

· FDIC Historical Statistics On Banking
The Historical Statistics on Banking (HSOB) provides annual statistical information on the banking industry beginning in 1934. These data can be used to identify and analyze long-term trends and to develop benchmarks to evaluate the current condition of the banking and thrift industries.

The HSOB contains aggregated data from individual financial reports filed by FDIC-insured commercial banks and savings institutions. These aggregated data are also available for individual states, U.S. territories and U.S. possessions.

"Commonly known as the Beige Book, this report is published eight times per year. Each Federal Reserve Bank gathers anecdotal information on current economic conditions in its District through reports from Bank and Branch directors and interviews with key business contacts, economists, market experts, and other sources. The Beige Book summarizes this information by District and sector. An overall summary of the twelve district reports is prepared by a designated Federal Reserve Bank on a rotating basis."

Full text cover-to-cover access to complete print runs of scholarly journals. A number of Economic journals are included. JSTOR contains only older volumes; a "moving wall" of 3 to 5 years seperates JSTOR coverage from current issues. JSTOR will contain the complete runs of a minimum of 100 important journal titles in 10 - 15 disciplines by the end of 1999.

JSTOR articles can be located by searching other article databases, such as Business Source Premier or ABI/Inform Proquest, and using the FIND IT link when full text is not available.
