Library Programming & Outreach

The mission of Library programming & outreach is to provide leadership in support of a diverse array of intellectually stimulating environments for Villanova University and the broader community on behalf of Falvey Memorial Library. The Library's Outreach Team does this by fostering relations and increasing awareness of the Library's service mission as it relates to the academic mission of the Villanova University community.

The primary areas of activity for the Outreach Team include:

  • Cultural programming and events
  • Scholarly communication and the Villanova University Community Bibliography
  • Library affiliates and associated programs

Ask the Library to host your event (click here to make a request)

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HAVING AN EVENT IN THE LIBRARY:

Falvey Memorial Library can and will host events sponsored by Villanova University departments and groups. The primary venue for campus events hosted in the Library is the First Floor Lounge. Due to the fact that this event space is also the 24 hour student study room as well as the location of the Library’s Holy Grounds coffee bar and café we are unable to close the room during events. While patron traffic and high visibility are some of the advantages of this location, and we encourage events in the Library to be lively affairs, please be aware that it is an open multi-purpose room often with concurrent activities going on in it.

When Falvey Memorial Library is able to host a campus event the Library’s Outreach Team will schedule the event and provide limited logistical support. This includes the re-arrangement of furniture in the Lounge by Library outreach team student assistants, and providing two additional long tables and/or a podium with built in audio amplification (a microphone and speaker system) and up to 100 folding chairs. Any other publicity, catering, audio-visual needs should be met by making arrangements with other appropriate University offices. We will gladly work with you, but are unable to take responsibility for any additional services. Food Creations and University Catering, ext. 9-7273 have exclusive rights to provide catering services in the Library.

Please use our online form to apply for your event to be hosted by the Library. We will notify you as soon and possible to confirm we are able to host your event. Room availability is determined on a first come basis. The capacity of the room will allow for events with an anticipated audience of up to 100 people. Given the nature of the space we will also try never to schedule more than one event in a day. The hours the room is regularly available for hosted events are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Please be aware the academic calendar and Library's hours place further restrictions on room availability.

It is very important that anyone interested in having the Library host an event understand the following. In accepting proper use of the room, the person and/or the group making the request will be held responsible for the appropriate conduct of those attending. Abnormal spills or damage must be reported immediately. Costs related to damages due to negligence or gross carelessness during the use of the room will be billed to the responsible party. The Library is not responsible for articles lost, stolen or damaged or for personal injuries sustained on the premises during an event. The Library cannot store food, equipment, or other materials. The group sponsoring the event is responsible to offer and provide interpreters or other aids to accessibility for the impaired. Alcoholic beverages and smoking are not allowed in the Lounge at any time.

Questions concerning these policies may be directed to Outreach Librarian, Darren G. Poley, Ext. 9-6371.
