Off-Campus Access to Information

Additional Help

  • Why can't I use The AOL Browser for off campus access?

  • The new off-campus system uses EZproxy, which will not work with AOL's browser. If you are currently using an AOL browser and want to successfully access the Library’s resources from off-campus, please download Netscape Navigator, Mozilla or Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Minimize AOL and open one of these browsers to access the resources at Falvey Memorial Library.
  • EZproxy accepts my username/password, but I can't get any further Enabling JavaScript.

  • A possibility is that JavaScript has been turned off on your browser. This can affect some indexes, such as ProQuest 5000. To enable Javascript in your browser:

    • Internet Explorer 5.x:
Click on TOOLS  > INTERNET OPTIONS > SECURITY. If there is a slider bar, move the bar to MEDIUM, otherwise click on the Custom Level button. Scroll down to the SCRIPTING section. Click ENABLE if this is not selected. Click OK.
    • Internet Explorer 6.x:
Click on TOOLS  > INTERNET OPTIONS > SECURITY. Click on INTERNET. Click on the Custom Level button. Scroll down to the SCRIPTING section. Click in the ENABLE radio button under ACTIVE SCRIPTING if this is not selected. Click OK.
    • Netscape Navigator/Communicator 7.x:
Click on EDIT > PREFERENCES > ADVANCED (click on word). Click on SCRIPTS & PLUGINS Under ENABLE JAVASCRIPT, click the checkbox next to Navigator.  Click OK.
  • Deleting the cache

  • Your browser might be caching a failed access attempt. If so, you need to delete the offline content stored by your browser. The steps are as follows:

    • Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x:
Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS. Click on the DELETE FILES button. Click OK. Click on SETTINGS. Click in the EVERY VISIT TO PAGE radio button. Click OK.
    • Netscape Navigator/Communicator 7.x:
Go to the EDIT > PREFERENCES. Click ADVANCED. Click CACHE. Click on the CLEAR MEMORY CACHE button. Click OK.  Click on CLEAR DISK CACHE button. Click OK. Click in the EVERY TIME I VIEW the page radio button below the words COMPARE THE PAGE IN THE CACHE to the PAGE ON THE NETWORK. Click OK.

  • Do you have a personal firewall/virus protection installed on your PC?

  • Personal firewalls can cause problems with EZproxy. Norton Personal Firewall is a common offender. Temporarily disable your firewall/virus protection and see if that allows you to connect properly. You will need to consult your software manual and/or contact the software company's technical support for help in setting your security software so that you can access our library resources.

  • If you fail to gain access to the information, please refer to our old proxy server instructions.
