About EndNote

EndNote is a database program for managing bibliographic citations. It can automate much of the work of organizing and formatting citations and bibliographies in your writing. EndNote can be used to manage data downloaded from Falvey Library's subscription databases and to format papers, dissertations, and other types of writing according to  over 1,000 different bibliographic styles.

 For information regarding libraries created with previous versions of the software, consult the manual for versions 8, 9, an 10 included in the software download.

EndNote Software Download and Updates

  • Download a copy of EndNoteX1, download and installation instructions

    Members of the Villanova University community may download one copy of the EndNote software for free to a University Windows machine.  The full EndNote manual is included in the download.  NOTE: DOWNLOAD WILL FUNCTION ON CAMPUS ONLY. CD FOR OFF-CAMPUS INSTALLATION AVAILABLE FOR 3-DAY LOAN AT RESERVE.)

    • CDs of the Windows version of EndNoteX1 are available at Reserve at Falvey Library for a 3-day borrowing period to load the program on a home PC.
    • NOTE: For the Mac version of EndNoteX1, contact Barbara Quintiliano at barbara.quintiliano@villanova.edu

    Using EndNote with Chicago Style

    Updates to the EndNote (for various versions):

    Information concerning the latest updates, as well as newly available filters, connection files, and style sheets that you can download.

    • Latest Update - 3/9/2007 - Import filter for PsychArticles and journals@Ovid. Dowload into Filters folder in your EndNote program.
    • Update- 2/21/2007 - Import filter for PsychInfo (SilverPlatter) - for versions 8, 9, X ONLY --not needed for version X1.  Download filter.  When searching PsychInfo, select citations and save them to your PC as a txt (or dat) file.  Then import them into EndNote using this filter. DIRECT EXPORT DOES NOT WORK FOR PSYCHINFO.
    • Update - 10-16-2006 - New connection file for VUCat.  Needed for versions 8, 9, AND X, NOT NEEDED for X1 .
    • Update - 2-6-2006 - Corrected APA Style file.  Needed only for VERSION 8 
    • Update - 10-03-2005: Modified MLA Style file (italics instead of underscoring for book and journal titles).  Needs to be downloaded into both version 8 and version 9.
    • Import filter for MLA International Bibliography.versions 8, 9, X -- not needed for version X1.

    Where to Get Help

    Don't get discouraged if it takes a little while to get comfortable using EndNote. With a little practice it isn't difficult, and there are many resources available for help and information.
